SCOTLAND AND ENGLAND
SEPTEMBER 2013
This year we decided to visit the Edinburgh area of Scotland and
then travel down to Cambridge, visiting major cathedrals on the way.
Since I don't have the courage to drive in the UK, we decided to do
the whole trip by train.
We spent six nights in Edinburgh and visited the surrounding
areas of interest including Rosslyn Chapel. We took the train from
Edinburgh to York for three nights. After a day exploring the York
Minster and the town, we backtracked on the train to Durham for a
day and then back to our hotel in York. Back on the train, we
arrived in Lincoln for one night and a wonderful visit to Lincoln
Cathedral. Our next base city was Ely for three days in order to
visit Ely Cathedral, Peterborough Cathedral and Cambridge. Next we
boarded the train and headed west to Worcester as our next base town
for three days with side trips to Gloucester, Tewkesbury Abby, and
Hereford – all by train. From Worcester we traveled to London for
five nights. We met my paper modeler friend, Mike and his wife Val,
who gave us an extensive tour of London and the following day a trip
to Chichester. One night we had dinner with another paper modeler
friend from London – Philip.
We were on the road for 23 days and had a magnificent
journey. I had written all of the Deans of the various cathedrals
that we would visit and asked to meet them. Most were out of town
but we had a wonderful "audience" with the Dean of Peterborough
Cathedral and Lincoln Cathedral.
I have paper models of most of the cathedrals that we visited on
this trip. I have not made them all but you can see the ones that I
have on UK models.
Come back and visit when I have finished writing each day's
adventure.
